Founder of Structural Philosophy
I am the founder of structural philosophy—a research program in which every level of abstraction remains grounded in antecedent structure. Concepts are derived from the dynamics of systems—resource flows, epistemic constraints, enforcement processes—not stipulated to serve theoretical or political aims. The method begins with meaningful experience and builds upward without losing contact with the ground.
Current applications include structural ethics, which reveals how moral obligations emerge from resource constraints rather than abstract principles, and structural gender theory, which distinguishes reproductive type, expressive mode, and gender as enforcement process. Both demonstrate that apparent philosophical paradoxes dissolve when the underlying structure is correctly identified.
My academic background spans the sciences and humanities with dual bachelor's degrees from UT Austin in English Language & Literature and Chemistry, plus a Master's in Classical Music Composition from Texas State. This interdisciplinary foundation allows me to approach philosophical questions with mathematical rigor while maintaining sensitivity to the qualitative dimensions of experience.
Beyond my research, I co-run Hampshire Academia with my wife Elisabeth in Portland, Oregon—a college admissions consulting practice where we help students craft compelling narratives for their academic journeys. I've taught for over seven years across multiple disciplines, from chemistry and physics to music theory and philosophy.
